I closed my book and looked up from under the maple canopy to the blue sky above. I had a normal life, but girls in books always went on adventures. I guess that was what going far off to college was to me, an adventure. My future was already planned, but I’d give anything to be one of those heroines. I wanted to live the life I found in these books. I was still lost in thought over the ending when there was a thump on my lap. College students were walking all around and a few tossing a football between them. I looked down expecting to see a football.

It wasn’t a football. The head of a perfectly cute guy was lying across my lap. He had tipped over from sleeping next to me and stayed fast asleep, even after his fall. I looked at him and waited for him to wake. I mean, his fall startled me out of my daydreaming. He didn’t wake. He kept sleeping peacefully.

He was gorgeous—-underwear model material. His dark hair had a glint of red in it and was splayed across his forehead. He had high cheekbones and perfectly-shaped lips. Stubble ran across his cheeks, and it seemed like it had been days since he had shaved. I looked at his fluttering, sleeping eyes and wondered what color they were. Mystery man just kept sleeping, like he had often found himself on unknown girls’ laps, and it didn’t bother him. I needed to move soon, but I was stuck, and I couldn’t help but admire him. He had his shirt off. It was draped partially over his shoulder now, but mostly on the ground beneath him. My eyes wandered down him to find he was very fit. All of the muscles around his shoulders and arms were perfectly defined, along with his washboard abs. His athletic shorts were low on his hips, showing off more than I had been close to in a long while since I’d attended an all-girls high school. I turned my head away before my eyes drifted any further. I had to stop checking out this guy. I mean, yes he literally fell into my lap, but I was beginning to feel like a creeper. How could he still be sleeping?

He murmured a few words in his sleep. “Maat mitra.” I didn’t know what that meant, and I was sure they were another language. Beautiful boy spoke another language, at least in his dreams. A language I had never heard. He continued to talk softly enough that only I could hear him, but none of it was in English, or any language I knew, for that matter. He was foreign, beautiful, and laying across my lap half naked. If I were a bit bolder in my ways, I’d say I hit the lottery. This was going to go down as the oddest start to my school year, but an embarrassing one once he woke up and found me drooling over him.

Cover Reveal: Soulless

Title: Soulless: The Immortal Gene, Book 1
Author: Jacinta Maree
Genre: Dystopian / Supernatural New Adult
Hosted by: Lady Amber's Tours
Blurb:

Welcome to Soulless. We are the generation that laughs at death. Reincarnation; what was once considered a gift of immortality has become an eternity of nightmares. Nadia Richards lives in a world plagued by reincarnation, a system of recycling souls where all past memories, personalities and traumatic events are relived daily in disjointed sequences.

Trapped within their own warped realities, not even the richest and most powerful are saved from their own minds unraveling. Madness is the new human nature, and civilizations are crumpling beneath themselves trying to outrun it. Within a society that ignores death, Nadia appears to be the one exception to the reincarnation trap. Born without any reincarnated memories and with printless eyes, the hot tempered 19 year old quickly becomes the ultimate prize to all those wishing to end the vicious cycle, or for some, to ensure they could evade death forever.

She writes a variety of genres including YA paranormal, steampunk, horror, new adult, dystopian and fantasy. The world had turned to waste; immortality was never meant for man and it drove humanity to the edge of destruction. There had been plenty of stories about how the human race would end. Unlike the movies from Hollywood, there was no big bang like a sun exploding; there was no catastrophic moment where our world was flipped upside down like in a nuclear war or zombie virus outbreak. It was gradual, like a seeping virus that withered everything within its path until it ground us down into brittle, hollowed cores. It wasn’t out to destroy our bodies; it destroyed everything we once treasured. Hope, love, compassion, joy… even our mortality. It was all gone. And now it mocked us with a peace we could never achieve, death.

Excerpt from High Stakes –
Blake refused to let me walk back to my dorm on my own when we left the bar. My one hour dinner had turned into three hours alone with Blake. He walked really close to me, and I enjoyed the warmth of his body shielding some of the gruesome wind. He insisted I wear his scarf again, and his scent made my insides warm. When we reached my door, I stood one step above him so we were at eye level. I took off his scarf and wrapped it around his neck.
“You can keep it.” he insisted, placing his hand over mine.
“Thank you, but you have a long walk yourself.”
“No, it’s not that far.”
“Aren’t you at the frat house?”
“Nope, I have a condo right down the street with Mitch and two other roommates.”
“Oh.” I stared down at his chest, too embarrassed to look him in the eyes.
He lifted my chin with his finger and his stare burned into mine. My heart pounded in my ears. He was so close I could smell the mixture of beer and mint on his breath, and the sensation of the warm air of his mouth on my chin made my stomach do that flip-flop thing again.
“Are we ever going to talk about the night of the party?” His question took me by surprise. I’d been hoping he wouldn’t bring it up.
“No.”
“Was I that bad of a kisser?” he whispered.
“No . . . it was a mistake, Blake, and since I’m your tutor now, it can never happen again.”
“So you liked kissing me?” He was so close I couldn’t think straight.
“Yes . . . I mean . . . Blake, please, can we forget about that night?” Heat flushed my face.
“Anything you want, Supergirl.” He leaned in and kissed my cheek. “Goodnight.”
“Night,” I managed to mumble. My legs wobbled toward the door and I looked back to see him still there, waiting for me to be safely inside. I gave him a small wave and closed the door behind me. I leaned against the door and attempted to catch my breath. There was some serious chemistry between us, and even with my inexperience, I sensed it. And it scared the hell out of me.

Teasers from High Stakes –
Teaser 1:
“You have a way to make everything better. Do you know that?”
“Yeah, that’s what classmates are for.” I used my fingernails to tease his washboard abs through his fitted thermal.
He took a step closer to me, leaving little space between our lips. “Girlfriend.”
“Classmate,” I breathed.
“Classmates that kiss.” His eyes burned into mine.
“Oh, yeah,” I whispered just as he kissed me softly. Gently, his warm lips teased mine in soft and passionate kisses. Tasting me. Teasing me. I moaned against him.
“What else do classmates do?”
“They study,” I whispered while attempting to conceal my laugh.

Teaser 2:
“All the more reason to make a wish and see. Besides, today is your birthday. You’re owed a birthday wish.”
“I don’t know . . .”
I nuzzled the side of her cheek with my own. “What’s the worst that could happen? You would fall madly in love with me?”
“You’re so cocky, Blake Holland.”
“You have no idea,” I whispered.
Teaser 3:
She couldn’t hide her attraction to me. It was obvious she was playing hard to get. Good thing too, because I fucking loved a challenge.

Teaser 4:
“It really is beautiful out here.”
“Yeah . . .” My eyes were on her. Her body. Her curves. The way her hair softly danced in the moonlight, putting the sky to shame with its beauty.

MK Schiller’s Bio –
MK Schiller is a hopeless romantic in a hopelessly pragmatic world. In the dark of night, she sits by the warm glow of my computer monitor, reading or writing, usually with some tasty Italian…the food that is!
She started imagining stories in her head at a very young age. In fact, she got so good at it that friends asked me to create plots featuring them as the heroine and the object of their affection as the hero.
She hopes you enjoy her stories and find The Happily Ever After in every endeavor.
M.K. Schiller loves hearing from readers. Find her on Facebook, follow her on Twitter @MKSchiller, and visit her website at www.mkschillerauthor.com.

Excerpt from Tin Man’s Dance –
“There’s a field not far from here. We could have a picnic. You should see the flowers that bloom there.” I bit my lip because he would see them next year. I wouldn’t. I kept going, my breaths materializing physically in the cool air. “There are roses and hydrangeas and…”
“Lilies? Are there lilies?”
“Stargazer lilies. Do you know what those are?”
He shook his head.
“They look like pink stars bursting open. They’re lovely.”
“Are they tall?”
I tilted my head back, eyeing him curiously. “Not really. Why do you ask?”
“Cause I want to know if we can f*ck in that field without being found out.”
I spun around, facing him. He feigned an innocent look while I stabbed my finger against his chest. “I can’t believe you transformed my beautiful fantasy into soft-core porn.”
James leaned his forehead against mine, his mischievous smirk causing my panties to dampen. “There is nothing soft-core about me. Besides, your fantasy was making me grow a vagina.”
I stared at him for a second before breaking out into a full-on laugh attack. I think we laughed hard enough to wake the sun back up.
His hand shifted to my lower back. He bent his mouth close to my ear. “I don’t know a damn thing about flowers, but I can tell you without a doubt there is no lovelier Lilly than the one I’m holding.”
Okay…so that just happened.

Teasers from Tin Man’s Dance –
Teaser 1:
Lilly, if we are in a fairy tale, then you, my beautiful dancing girl, have successfully broken one hex, only to cast another.
“Not myth, a legend.”
Teaser 2:
“Same diff. But I agree, it would be foolish of us.” Even as he said it, he was inching closer, closing the gap I’d made between us.
I took a step back. “Behave.”
“Kiss me good-night, lover. I want to fall asleep with the taste of you on my tongue.”
Note to self: boys who took English lit could melt a girl’s panties right off.

Teaser 3:
“My mother always said ‘It’s never too late to start something as long as you intend to finish it.’”
“That’s good advice.”
My mom had an expression too: Sometimes you find trouble, and sometimes you find troubled. It takes a smart woman to know the difference. Clearly, in James Hutchinson I had found both.
