Dark Paradise Book 2
Re-Published August 12, 2014  by Forever Yours

"The makings of a beautiful Gothic Romance, just a little too jumbled and the heroine needs to grow up."

Synopsis -

A GIFT AND A CURSE

Mala LaCroix sees dead people—really. After using her psychic gifts to catch a killer, she's locked in a psych ward and must strike a deal with the devil to secure her release. Apprenticed to a dark arts practitioner, Mala vows to free herself and save her loved ones from danger. But she doesn't know who to turn to when her crush on Landry Prince turns into something more serious.

A FATE WORSE THAN DEATH

Landry has sacrificed everything to protect Mala. A near-death experience changes him forever, and now he, too, possesses supernatural powers he doesn't understand. Mala and Landry must band together to defeat the dark forces—both human and otherworldly—who would use their abilities for evil. Even as they fall for each other, they must prepare to battle for their very souls . . .

Word count: 95,000 (Goodreads)

Review -

Took me quite a while to write this review, mainly because I had quite a bit of conflicting emotions in regards to the story-line. Did I not like it due to the fact that I did not read Book 1, Dark Paradise? Or did I just really not like the plot, or was it just the main character? While this book was very well written, descriptions were dead on and the author did know much of comings and goings in the Vodoun world, the plot in itself could use a little more help. Not to mention the main character could use a definite reality check and grow up. "With great power, comes great responsibilities." That saying is true with more than just super heroes. When you wield magic as powerful as what Mala LaCroix holds within her very soul, one cannot just dabble into it, begin a drastic spell, then stop in the middle and say, "Oh, never mind", especially when dealing with other people's souls.

Mala LaCroix is the last living LaCroix, a family of extremely powerful Voodoo Queens. As such she is next in line to the thrown when her Great Aunt passes on to the other side. An aunt whom she has promised to be an apprentice to, and learn how to wield her dark art. But when the time comes she is less than enthused. But with enemies from both sides of the grave out to kill her, maybe going with dear old Auntie isn't such a bad idea.

Landry Prince has escaped the hands of death once again. Only this time, he hasn't come back alone. There is a demon living beneath his skin, devouring his soul with every breath he takes. And the only one he can rely on to rid himself of the demon in the Voodoo Queen herself, Magnolia. The question in that scenario, at what lengths will she go? And how can he keep Mayla safe when he can barely even trust himself?

When the action and magic happen, they do indeed make an impression. Too bad there isn't enough of the good to outweigh the bad. And the supposed 'bad' characters are the ones who keep to story flowing. Just as Magnolia tried to explain to her bullheaded niece, there is no such thing as black magic, either the wielder has a black soul or a light one. The decisions you make and the reasons behind them are all that truly matter. Anyone who practices voodoo, or has any roots in the craft, art or religion, may want to skip this read, because what Mayla does in the end will make you want to make a special little doll with her name on it. This book reads more like a Y/A than a N/A, if not for the sex. The characters are not really at the maturity of someone in the twenties, more like teenagers who still don't know which way is up. With some tweaks, this series does carry a lot of potential. As it stands now... This book cannot be read as a stand-alone, too much needed information is lost without having read the first book.

When it comes to Máax, the God of Truth who refuses to follow the rules, there's more to him than meets the eye.  Literally.  Because Maáx is invisible!  Which is probably why, after seventy-thousand years, he's still unable to find a mate.

Ashli Rosewood was never meant to die. In fact, her death might be the very reason the gods are now faced with stopping that pesky doomsday right around the corner.  If only there was a way to undo the past. Cue Máax. Seven feet of divine masculinity and the unruly god charged with saving Ashli. With a little help from an ancient Mayan tablet, Máax will travel back in time and set things right.

Easy, right? Wrong. Because Máax has one teensy challenge. He's invisible. And every time this impatient, powerful deity gets anywhere near Ashli, he spooks her right into harm's way. Meaning...she dies, and he has to start all over again.

Cliff, banana peel, runaway storage container filled with Belgian chocolates, bee sting, the list goes on and on.  Does the Universe have it out for this girl? Sure seems that way. But why? And what will Máax do when he begins to suspect that not only is Ashli the key to stopping the apocalypse, but she may be "the one" he's been waiting seventy-thousand years for. How will he save the one woman the Universe insists on killing and who wants nothing to do with him?

About the author:
Before taking up a permanent residence in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mimi spent time living near NYC (became a shopaholic), in Mexico City (developed a taste for very spicy food), and Arizona (now hates jumping chollas, but pines for sherbet sunsets). Her love of pre-Hispanic culture, big cities, and romance inspires her to write when she's not busy with kids, hubby, work, and life...or getting sucked into a juicy novel.

She hopes that someday leather pants for men will make a big comeback and that her writing might make you laugh when you need it most.

Excerpt:

Bloody deity infernum! Máax’s head throbbed with a pain so severe it reminded him of the time he’d accidentally been stepped on by Cimil’s unicorn. Giant fucking thing thought it was some sort of lapdog but weighed the same as an elephant.

So what had that bloody woman hit him with? A garbage truck? No way was that a simple shovel.

In any case, it knocked a few of his marbles loose because he didn’t recall freeing himself or making his way inside her house. But he had. In fact, he’d made it to her bed, and now Ashli lay beside him, sound asleep. How long had he been out, and how the hell had she fallen asleep without noticing a very large man in her bed?

Because you’re invisible and were lucky enough to pass out on the side of the bed she doesn’t use.

Carefully, he edged off the bed, trying not to disturb her. Ashli rolled over and flung her arm over his chest. Deorum inferorum. Máax sucked in a deep breath.

“You smell so good,” she mumbled.

She talks in her sleep? For some reason he found that adorable.

“What cologne is that?” she added.

His natural scent. All gods produced a pleasing aromatic cocktail of pheromones. He supposed it was nature’s subtle way of disarming humans, making it less likely for them to freak out and realize they were in the presence of something not quite human.

Ironically, he felt like the one being lulled by Ashli’s scent. He’d never smelled a more enticing fragrance: tropical flowers mixed with a slight hint of those roasted chili peppers from her kitchen and fresh ocean air. Gods, the scent was just as exotic as the woman. Add to that, Ashli seemed to enjoy the ocean, his passion, as much as he did. If he could live his entire existence on the beach, he would. The air, the tropical breeze, the soft sand . . . there was nothing better than swimming in the waves or surfing when the opportunity arose, though it had been a very long time. Isn’t such a smart idea to surf when you’re invisible. A lone surfboard, carving a wave on its own, looks a bit strange. Nor was it smart to lay next to Ashli, enjoy the warmth of her touch while sniffing her hair, or allow himself to grow extremely aroused. Which he had.

Idiot. What was the point? So he could remind himself what he was missing out on? Once this was all over, which it would be because he never failed, they’d both move on. Him to some cold, dark tomb probably buried somewhere in a remote swamp where no one would find him for a million years. And Ashli—she would find some nice human to spend her mortal days with.

Or perhaps one of your brothers. After all, Cimil prophesied that twenty years from now, Ashli would broker peace between his brethren. That meant she’d meet them all. And Ashli was a catch, not to mention the one person on the planet destined to save them all. How? He had no clue. Yes, clearly the woman had her attributes—sexy as hell attributes—but aside from that, she seemed quite normal. Nevertheless, being savior of the planet would grant her instant celebrity status and boatloads of attention. She’d have men lining up around the block.

He balled his fists, then let go. All for the best. Because he didn’t want her. Much. And he certainly didn’t need the distractions; this was one mission he couldn’t afford to fail.

He sighed and Ashli flinched. Máax lifted his head, ready to make a mad dash from the room if she woke up, but found himself entranced. Her plump lips and golden skin; her dark lashes, fanning along the crease of her catlike eyes; her hair a wild mass of thick black curls. He had no idea of her heritage, but never had there been a more seductive female in existence.

His eyes swept down the length of her small athletic frame covered only in a flimsy white sundress. Next to his large body, Ashli appeared more petite than she really was.

An urge to dominate her, to take her right there, sparked.

Or perhaps you’d enjoy the opposite. Yes, he’d enjoy the feel of her lithe, lean figure straddling him, riding his cock.

Hell, man. That’s enough, you horny bastard.

“Fuck this,” he hissed and slipped quickly from the bed before he did something he regretted. Like kiss her.
Or motorboat her.

You randy bastard.

He needed to go for a swim. Yes, the ocean water would cool him down. The ocean always made him feel better, like being home.

Accidentally...Over? Review

Accidentally...Over? by Mimi Jean Pamflioff (ARC Review)
Accidentally Yours Book 5
Published August 26, 2014 by Forever Yours
4.75 BLOODY FANGS & CELESTIAL STARS!

"Well, the series that accidentally became one my favorites has come to an end, or has it?"

Review -

The time has come for Cimil to pay for all of her crimes. As she sits back and enjoys her incarceration the question remains, will she be enjoying a giant bowl of popcorn while watching the apocalypse begin, or still attempting to prevent it? Or planning a giant hoopla to celebrate it? Her victim of the day is Maax, though it turns out she has been using him for a very long time. Though now he may finally get his reward, after he jumps through a few more fiery hoops.

Cimil sends Max on one final mission; to go back in time to save the only person able to stop the Apocalypse. No problem right? Wrong. There are a few catches; 1) Death has its eyes set on this mystery woman. 2) He must save her in her own time, as a mortal. 3) She has to stay in her own time. Easy simple tasks, if she hadn't turned out to be his. And saving her life seems to be a tasks even harder to accomplish than evading the end of the world. Oh, and he's still invisible. So what's a god to do when faced with such enormous tasks set out by a sister who is one of the craziest beings alive and always has something up her sleeve?

Ashli Rosewood is beginning to think she has lost her ever loving mind. Not only does she keep dreaming of her own demise, but the being she believes to be the god of death. Only instead of fearing him she lusts after him. Ever since losing her parents Ashli has felt not only the guilt of surviving, but that Death was out to get her. So when Maax steps into her life, she is more than sure he is there to end hers. But if/when she decides that may not be what he after, her world is turned beyond upside down.

In this final ride of the Accidentally Yours Series just may blow a gasket from laughing so hard, and be watching the ground closely for banana peels. Every answer to every question will finally be answered, and the full extent to all of Cimil's plans will be revealed. And we finally learn what the hell Jess, Ann and Nichole are!!!! See, I waited so patiently, as I am sure all of you did as well. This is a must read for any and all who have read the series.  Those of you who haven't, what are you waiting for? Full of action, not toooo much drama, laughter, mayhem, love and a whole lot of fun. Sadly, there isn't that much bloodshed in this final book, and I really would have loved one more bloody battle with all of the gods battling it out with the Scabs and Obscuros. But all of the dark humor did indeed make up for that. This series is for all readers, regardless of gender, that love their humor dark, deadly and sinister. And completely unpredictable, a truly unique read, which is a rare find these days. One will not be able to say, 'didn't I just read this same thing happening in a different book?' Really, I haven't heard of many invisible deities who were made in invisible as a punishment to a crime that wasn't even really a crime who could travel through time and do other very manly deeds.

So fans of Krestley Cole, Sherrilyn Kenyon and Kerrelyn Sparks, be sure to make this series your next read. And when you do, be sure to pick up the entire series at once. When reading this series, readers will not want to stop until they get to the very end.

Synopsis -

A Crazy Kind of Love

Meet Cimil. Yeah, she’s the Goddess of the Underworld, harbinger of all things evil and deadly, yadda, yadda . . . but she’s also crazy fun! While minding her own business in Giza, Egypt, around 3000 BC (give or take a few centuries), she spots the hottest mortal her immortal eyes have ever seen. And he’s not just any guy—he’s the strong, powerful pharaoh who’s fallen madly in love with her. But when he kills her pet unicorn, Cimil vows revenge, even if takes thousands of years to get even.

When Roberto meets Cimil, the king knows she’s his soul mate. It isn’t just her beautiful eyes or gorgeous body, but the godly power he feels simmering just beneath her fun-loving surface. They were the perfect couple . . . until the dead unicorn thing. Now after four thousand years, Roberto crosses paths with Cimil again, and his love for her is stronger than ever. But can he prove that he can once again be trusted with her heart? (Goodreads)

Review -

Fans of this series, sit back, relax and enjoy this crazy unicorn ride (yes, I said unicorn, only no-one can see her, and she is just as deranged as her owner) that is all Cimil.  Never has so much fun been packed up and delivered in so few words. Readers will also be able to see just how much love is packed within the fiery, evil, twisted, red-headed Goddess of the Underworld. Many secrets and plots will also be brought to light, including the fact that Cimil just may already have her soul-mate.

After Cimil finds love, loses it she is paid a visit by one of her dead. Only this one is even more special than all of the others, its her. And the message she receives is the reason she causing so many accidents, and putting her brethren through torrential hell.  But, the hell they each went through, as she points out, the after effects were beyond a wondrous thing.

Accidentally...Cimil? is beyond a must read, it is essential to this series, all of the reasons for everything that has happened from even Book 1. Be warned though, you may piss your pants from laughing so hard, though not much blood and gore, there are a few parts that will happily make you cringe.
